What Happens at a Cake Smash Photo Shoot?

My Cake Smash and Splash Sessions are relaxed, fun-filled, and baby-led. Some little ones dive straight in, smashing their cake with excitement, while others take a more cautious approach - every reaction is unique, and that’s what makes the session so special!

Your session includes:
✔ A mini portrait session on the cake smash set (before the cake is brought out)
✔ The Cake Smash - where your baby gets to explore, taste, and play with their cake
✔ A Splash Session - a fun bubble bath to clean up and capture those adorable splashes

Tips for Preparing for Your Cake Smash Session

To ensure the best results, we can schedule your session at a time that fits in with your baby’s nap schedule. A well-rested, recently fed baby is more likely to enjoy their cake and play, making for a relaxed and fun session.

Each Cake Smash Session typically lasts around 45 minutes, but there’s no rushing - we’ll take the time we need to capture those precious moments.

After your shoot, you will view your images and choose your package. Your selected images are then edited and delivered.

Yes, you’ll need to bring your own cake for the session. This gives you full control over the design, size, and ingredients (especially important for any allergies or dietary needs). I’m happy to share guidance on what works best for photos and give recommendations for local bakers if you’d like.

4. Can we choose a theme for the cake smash?

Yes! I love creating unique setups. Let me know any colors, themes, or styles you like, and I’ll take care of the rest. Popular themes include woodland, boho, rainbow, and classic pastels.

5. What should my baby wear for the session?

I recommend simple, cute outfits that match your theme. Some parents choose rompers, tutus, or dungarees. I also have some outfits available in the studio. Be prepared for things to get messy!

6. How messy does it get?

Very! But that’s part of the fun. After the cake smash, we can do an optional splash session in a mini tub to clean up while capturing more adorable photos.

7. How long does a cake smash session last?

The session usually lasts around 1 hour, giving us time for portraits, the cake smash, and a splash session if included.

8. How much does a cake smash session cost?

My cake smash sessions start at £299. 

9. When will we receive our photos?

Your gallery will be ready within 2 weeks after your session. 

10. My baby doesn’t like getting messy – what if they don’t smash the cake?

Every baby is different! Some dive right in, while others are more hesitant. I gently encourage them to explore, and we still capture beautiful photos, even if they only take a few tastes.
