What Happens at Your Family Photography Session?

Family sessions take place in my light, airy studio in Garforth, Leeds, designed to feel calm and welcoming for both children and parents.

Rather than stiff posing, my approach focuses on creating a relaxed environment where everyone can simply be themselves. I gently guide you throughout the session so you never feel unsure about what to do, but the goal is always to capture natural moments and genuine connection.

Expect plenty of interaction, cuddles and little moments of laughter as we photograph your family together.

For babies and younger children, sessions are gentle and unhurried, allowing them time to settle and explore the space. Older children often bring their own energy and personality, which makes the session playful and fun.

The result is a collection of timeless, natural photographs that reflect your family exactly as you are.

1. What is a family photography session like?

Family sessions are relaxed and natural. Rather than stiff posing, I gently guide you so that we can capture genuine moments of connection between you and your children. There will be plenty of cuddles, laughter and interaction during the session, allowing your family’s personality to shine through in a way that feels authentic and unforced.

2. Where do family photoshoots take place?

All family sessions take place in my light, airy studio in Garforth, Leeds, which provides a calm and private environment for your family. The studio setting allows us to create timeless, natural photographs while keeping the focus on your family and the connection you share.

3. How long does a family session last?

Family photography sessions typically last around one hour. This gives us plenty of time to capture a variety of images while keeping the experience relaxed and enjoyable for everyone.

4. What should we wear for the session?

Simple, neutral tones tend to photograph beautifully. Colours such as creams, soft whites, light greys and muted pastels work particularly well together. Try to coordinate rather than match exactly, and avoid bold patterns or logos so the focus stays on your family rather than the clothing.

5. Can we include our newborn in the family session?

Newborns are not included in family sessions. If you’d like newborn photos, please book a separate newborn shoot to capture those special moments.

6. Do you provide props for family photos?

I focus on creating a natural, timeless look. While I don’t use props in family sessions, I’ll guide you through poses that bring out your family’s natural beauty and connection.

7. How many people can be included in a family session?

Family sessions are suitable for up to five people, usually parents and children. If you have a slightly larger group, please get in touch and we can discuss the best option for your family.

8. What if my kids don’t want to cooperate during the shoot?

That’s completely normal, and nothing to worry about. Children often need a little time to warm up, so sessions are designed to be relaxed and playful. I gently guide the session while allowing children to be themselves, which often leads to the most natural and genuine photographs.

9. Can we include our pet?

Yes, pets are very welcome! They’re part of the family too. Just let me know in advance so we can plan the session accordingly.

10. When will we receive our photos?

Your gallery will be ready within 2-3 weeks after the session.
